The "Galerie du Vitrail", located right beside the Chartres Cathedral, is exhibiting 50 glass sculptures created by Fleur Nabert, until October 15, 2022.
Fleur Nabert has been developing for years a language of sculpture in glass. She is exploring it with the help of the international renown stained glass master Loire. By combining stained glass techniques used since the 14th century but also the very contemporary technique of thermoforming which does not need lead settings, she is building an art bridge between the centuries. She also likes to enhance certain creations with a gold leaf dress.
The exhibition presents creations of multiple formats: from glass icons that you can easily put in your home to monumental sculptures. The themes addressed are spiritual and poetic: glass becomes sun, wave, monstrance or landscape.
Made with the Loire workshops in Chartres with which Fleur Nabert has been working for years, these stained glass windows require special technicality. The patterns are carved in a bed of plaster. Then the artist places an overhanging glass plate on wedges. It is cooked at nearly 1000 degrees Celsius for 24 hours. The glass then takes the exact form of the plaster and takes on all the nuances of light.
